The Snackery - Wollaton Street, 1977 and 1966 (right) This famous eating establishment was next door to the 'Wilberforce Inn' and was formerly Harry Lomax's fried fish restaurant. The building on the left was an electricity generating station. Click here for 2001 version Pictures from John Mugridge

Denman Gardens, 1977 These deck-access flats replaced the Mitchell Street/Edinburgh Street area in the late 1960s. Denman and Connaught Gardens were pulled down in the late 1980s and small new terraced houses built to replace them. 'Quality Cleaners' was the first shop on this block.

Denman Street, February 1969 Seen from the balcony of Highurst Court, this street becomes Moorgate Street halfway down, with Montfort Street branching off to the right, leading to Ilkeston Road and the ruin of Altons Cigar Factory. Wood Street is at the far end leading to Alfreton Road, almost at the Canning Circus junction. Greek Street is just out of sight on the right. These flats are still standing today.

Parliament Street - 1977 Here is the old dome on top of the old Palais, which has now been replaced by a smaller one. Jaceys pub on the left here still bears its old red Shipstones sign. Victoria Centre flats loom in the background!

Bikes at Raleigh and Stan & Iris Northern at Raleigh Athletic Club The first shot shows employees' cycles in the compound, the second - Stan Northern (minus his trademark beard and moustache) serving at the Old Coach Road club, which was demolished in 1986

Hockley - 1977 This area has now becone one of the trendiest places to be in Nottingham, with the Skinny Sumo sushi bar, Voodoo Bar (ex Lord Nelson), Shimla Pinks Indian restaurant, and several wine and juice bars.

Ryehill Terrace, Meadows - June 1974 Love the Ford Anglia on the left hand shot, parked on the ancient cobbles. Even though its summer the weather still looks pretty bleak!

Pelham Street - 1977 Two views of this area, the left hand building on the second shot is now 'Barcentro' a popular bar. Next to in the 1980s was the 'Greek Chippy'. Vordec Wallpaper is now 'Man Ho's' restaurant.
