Harold Fines had his shop on the corner of Salisbury and Middleton Street, the first picture is of his daughter Beryl Wilson and daughter in law Pat Fines. Picture from Barrie and Pat Fines of Australia.

May Fines and Mrs Larkam at the end of their yard on Middleton Street, the shop faced the pub "Marquis of Lorne". Also donated by Barrie and Pat.

Norton/Denman St - 1977
'Just Sarah' is the ladies clothes shop on the left, demolished in Winter 1980. John Player No2 factory is visible just to the right of the shop sign. Does anyone remember 'Granny Fletcher' of Norton Street?

 

Denman St - 1977
'Just Sarah' (formerly Clays Drapers) is the last shop on the left. Next to this was Meadow Dairy Co (Grocers) Betty Wright and Ernest Fletchers stores and Scrimshaws butchers. On the right are Robinsons hairdressers and Holmes Boot and Shoe repair shop, next to St John's Terrace. A rebuilt Sir Garnet Wolseley pub is in the distance. Hartley Road - 1977
On the right is the Hartley Road Post Office and an old 'Players No6' sign. To the left is the old Windsor cinema, then a showroom for Players No6 and No10 gifts. Most of the terraced houses past the white building on the far right have long since been demolished
