SNEINTON SCENES

One hot summers day in 1988, I finished work at 5.30pm and strolled through the deserted market area behind Victoria Centre. The first pub I came to was the Duke of Devonshire on Carlton Road. Pouring a pint of Home Mild for me, the brash barmaid said 'you're in the Madhouse now me duck', and this place soon filled up with Friday night revellers and became my regular watering hole. Never far out of sight was the Byron Court flats complex where Grandma Lucy had lived until 1969. Along with the Earl Howe, King Billy, Lamp, Duke of Cambridge, Market Side, Vine, Bath Inn and March Hare, this pub shall be forever in my memories. Unfortunately I did not record any people having fun (see Radford Publife) but shall always remember the many wild nights out of 1988.

I am about to start my new Sneinton book - would anyone with old photos or tales please contact me via email.
